Gitzo makes a great monitor platform called the G065.  It's about a $85.00 part.

bogen also makes a projector plate that can attached to an arm and mounted on a c stand, you will need to have turtle base c's to attach it though.  search on b&h for projector + bogen and it should pop up, its the solution Im choosing.

There are two most important mission critical regarding on location computer work:

a) The laptop better not crash in to the floor from waist hight bringing the entire shoot to a catastrophic conclusion etc etc.

B ) Staff and photographer should not spend the entire shoot stressed about a) to happen and or baby sitting the computer-on-top-of-a-tripod (or even worst, light stand) set up.

The best way I can think of to solve this is to re-use the transport cart making it in to a stable comfortable working desk on wheels .

I have the smallest of this Multi - Carts and made basically the same thing as in this photo and use it every time to shoot tethered. My strobe box works as a desk chair with the padding that I put on top...

Yep, I have one of those as well.  I drilled a hole through the base of the Apple Display and then using a 1/4 20 bolt I then bolt the monitor to the platform so it doesn't fall over when rolled around.  I thought the OP was asking for a more "in the field field" sort of solution.   Like when I'm out in vineyards in the wine country shooting tethered to the laptop.

If the location is not in the field field then yes the rolling cart is "the Man".

Another one of 101 possible concepts:

Pelican laptop case with 1/4-20 female socket in center, reinforced on inside with 1/4" plywood or aluminum secured to base of Pelican (screws, fiberglass resin/epoxy, etc) for tripod mounting. The idea is that there is no 1/4-20 stud sticking out of case bottom to become a PITA.

Secure the laptop base to the bottom of the  case (foam inserts around it of course) with 3M's velcro-style fasteners (can't recall name- like velcro on 'roids). Have ability to secure backside of open screen to inside lid of Pelican case as well.

The idea is that should the tripod topple with the lid open, the laptop and it's screen are held within the confines of the case and as protected as possible.
