Another new MF camera?
« on: November 15, 2007, 08:30:32 am »

Well, not really,

After reading discovering some nice stuff from fellow LL-Forumers, I passed just a few hours to give birth to this baby: The Black Widow (BW1.0). It pairs maximum compatibility( takes every d-back), is an (kind of) integrated system with interchangeable and shiftable (pinhole) lenses.
It will probably make history as the cheapest MF camera ever. It costs me near to 5 € to make it (for the kick-a** grip). Digital back and flexadapter V-Mount insert plate not included of course.
Unfortunately the very first pictures are not yet up to the quality I used to get from my P25. Don't know if the ghost images come from light entering somewhere or the bacl calibration the P25 does before capture.
This has been a really non-scientifical thing to do. I will try get images in focus first by changing the pinhole, BW 1.0 MarkII will be ready soon i hope.

I love it! That landscape picture looks like a Van Gogh! ;-)

That's truly fantastic! Beats Holga all over.

Of course you'll have to charge at least $20,000 for it to interest the MF users on this forum.

What you are experiencing, my friend, is a natural phenomenon that some people experience just before they kick the bucket to go to another world.  May God bless your soul, AMEN.  According to  American Stellar Society (A.S.S.), this kind of miracle happening to human beings are 1 in a million.  Consider yourself one of the lucky ones.

This is what is known as "Northern Lights" or "aurora borealis", are natural colored light displays, which are usually observed in the night sky, particularly in the POLAR zone.  That means HELL is FREEZING over and around you, so you would NOT experience any heat in your after life.

From wikipedia:

Auroras are produced by the collision of charged particles, mostly electrons but also protons and heavier particles, from the magnetosphere, with atoms and molecules of the Earth's upper atmosphere (at altitudes above 80 km). The particles have energies from 1 - 100 keV. Most originate from the sun and arrive at the vicinity of earth in the relatively low energy solar wind. When the trapped magnetic field of the solar wind is favourably oriented (principally southwards) it reconnects with that of the earth and solar particles then enter the magnetosphere and are swept to the magnetotail. Further magnetic reconnection accelerates the particles towards earth.

The collisions in the atmosphere electronically excite atoms and molecules in the upper atmosphere. The excitation energy can be lost by light emission or collisions. Most aurorae are green and red emission from atomic oxygen. Molecular nitrogen and nitrogen ions produce some low level red and very high blue/violet aurorae.

Please send those images to National Geographic or Ripley's Believe or Not, as we may not see another miracle like this again during our lifetime.

What does this have to do with photography? A lot.  Remember, the Shroud of Turin, where the image is a negative rather than positive?  Your images is just like that.  Evidently, you were zapped with some supernatural electrons the minute you press the shutter button, therefore, creating this miracle.  You need to setup a shrine where you can display this image and take donations from the lost souls.

It may be the cheapest digital MF setup but if I remember correctly you could buy a Lubitel new for next to nothing.

I like it as is...when can we expect a full production model?

How soon can Michael get one to test and review?

Something looks very wrong with those, and I don't just mean the colour blobs. The focus should be better (and effectively infinite) unless the pinhole is totally the wrong size.

Have a look at these: http://forum.manualfocus.org/viewtopic.php?id=8020

I can tell you waht I think is going wrong.

It is that the chip must be in the dark when the 'black reference' file is made.

So you need to make your exposure and then cover the pinhole just before the exposure ends and the black reference is started

Say you are hold the back 'open' for 10s using the b on the copal shutter after 8s cover the pinhole

You will then get a more 'sensible' image

you could search this forum for 'shutterless'

where my similar experiences are laid out

You have invented a piece of equipment that the TV show Ghost Hunters have been looking for.  They were looking for a device that can capture the images of a ghost, spirit, lost soul, etc., but were not able to during all their segments.  Your camera just captured an image of the ghost of the previous owner of this house, who was involved in a love triangle, and was murdered by his wife's lover.

You should sell your invention to the TV network right way to boost their ratings.

I can help manufacture back mounts, lens mounts, shoe mounts, horse mounts, whatever mounts necessary to make this an open system.

Thanks a lot, that's exactly what i was looking for. Yes, looked like a black reference problem to me too.

Yes, I already thought about becoming a ghost photographer. I'm convinced there's a real market for paranormal photography;-)) People still seem to be really confused by this, a few weeks a go, a friend showed me some holiday photos with what is currently called "orbs". He was shocked, i didn't even try to convince him that it was just dust spots. Small sensors and flash light in the dark can give very spooky pictures;-)

Ok, well, i'm awaiting the first offers from Hasselblad, Mamiya and Sinar.

Or Kyocera. They know how to make great ghost cameras.
