Michael, in an ideal digital set up what monitor would you choose / have you chosen?  I notice that you are using an Apple laptop in the tutorials, but at some point you referred to using a CRT for critical "developing" work. Perhaps this might be a candidate for the "Understanding Series" for those like me (am I alone?) who don't have a good grasp of the differences that apply to digital photography workflow?
Regards,
Bob.

NECs and Eizo are good bets these days for good displays. Apple's ACD are worth considering too although they are overdue for an update.

Laptop displays are not suitable for color accurate work since they are designed for portability and energy efficiency. Not color accuracy. This will certainly change in the future but not any time soon. That is why color accurate work requires a desktop display.

Ever since the end of the Artisan there are no high-end CRTs. The focus in the industry is LCD and any CRT sold these days will be build with low-end parts.

Does the Apple Cinema Display give you precise colors and stay stable over a period of years? Does it have warranty?

The EIZO CE240 comes with 5 yrs warranty, and is aprox. 1700$ retail. Is it worth getting for photo retouching, or can I stick to a 24" ACD and be happy with its accuracy? What is the drawback?

Really need some advice regarding display purchase!
