Do any photographers still wear those vests that look like fly fishing vests?

I recall that someone here (Michael himself, maybe?) finds them useful for getting additional lenses and other photographic equipment that doesn't all fit in his carry-on through airport security.

Yes, I use one. I found that the fishing vests are sometimes less costly, though sometimes not made from as heavy a material as some photo versions.

I use a fishing vest purchased from Bass Pro Shops and find it suitable for most accessories, even for one of my Mamiya 645 lenses.

It didn't have anything to do with airport security, but it had something to do with the carry-on weight checks.

Airport security wants you to empty your pockets for those bulging things anyway.

Yip, I wear mine when fly fishing, and it's also useful in summer for camera gear as it's light.

I wear mine all the time.  used to have a system  where the unexposed 220 film was in one zippered pocket.  The exposed in another and the inside large pockets were for lenses-filters and whatever.

Now I am digital and really don't need the vest for the same reasons, but I wear it anyway and would be lost without it.

The greatest thing was when in the field and wan't to get to a spot (maybe hazardous ice or what have you) I would load the pockets with a lens or two and put the camera (attached to tripod) on my shoulder.  Worked pretty well although also rather bulky and heavy.
