P25 Used?
« on: January 18, 2006, 10:51:49 am »

Hello all,

since the P45 is around now - I´m interested in an
used P25. Even at eBay you can find some - but what
I´m interested in is the "wear and tear" factor - on
a recent auction there was a back with almost 30000
shots.

How can anyone tell about "wear and tear" in such
terms - since this back has no movable parts inside?!

Can someone justify about 20 K USD for such an
example?

I´m well aware of the superb performance this back
delivers - I just would be happy about some experience
of people who bought this back second hand.

mille grazie,

Andreas

When I visited the Phase One factory last summer I specifically asked their chief engineer and head of manufacturing about this issue.

Their response was a definitive statement that sensors and related electronics suffer essentially no wear and tear, and that even hundreds of thousands of exposures will show no effect.

One thing to remember about the Phase One backs is that they use a "sleeping" technology. What this means that is each circuit is powered down to its lowest possible state except for the moment that it's needed. This means that these backs run very cool, and as we know, heat is the enemy of electronics.

As long as the back hasn't been subject to physical abuse I'd have no problem with buying a used one.
