Z3100 Banding
« on: December 24, 2014, 01:01:31 pm »

On my Z3100 I am starting to get horizontal banding on the last couple of inches of the print. What causes this and what should I try to fix this?

hello Mike,
could you be more specific...     papertype     sheet or roll        photo?

in all cases i would start with a nozzle check print... and clean the heads that need it.

in case of a sheet:   Could it be that the paper is too short to print the whole image? ( does it occur if you use a larger sheet or make the image smaller?)

Hi Kers,
I was using a roll of HP Satin which was severly curled. I did a image diagnostics print then a printhead alignment then a paper advance calibration. Stlll had banding. I took out that roll and tried a roll of Lexjet satin and it printed fine. Weird.

I had the same issues if you take a look at some recent posts. It happened to me directly at the start of a print for about 10-11 lines, the the curl was less harsh, and it printed fine. But where the ink is dropped down, it looks like the paper should be locked in rather flat, but still see this in some cases. I was going to suggest it being profile related, but you covered that. And if all is clean on the diagnostic page, then the curl is likley a variable to blame.

One of my fav papers I use is the Premium Photo Satin Plus. a 11.5mil heavy paper with a soft satin texture. really nice. Not sure of the 200 year life on it, as it used to be used with the 70 year dye Vivera inks. Maybe someone knows more about it. Regardless I strongly recommend you try it.

Maybe if HP would put it on a 3 inch core then it wouldn`t curl so badly?
