You stitch 100-megapixel shots? My God, what do you end up with? How large do you print? Where do you keep the Cray you use for processing?

My mind boggles, Bernard.

And the same goes for you, Steven!

Why wouldn't you stitch these images? :D https://www.360cities.net/image/seattle-wa-alaska-way-usa

I've got a 40 shot (4hx10w) I need to stitch still - the XF cable release from Hanhel + a 2.5mm F-F connector & my Gigapan was shooting fine!

Now that DR is pretty much identical at pixel level on all serious cameras, stitching is pretty much mandatory for those really interested in image quality.

Because a 3 images stitch from an a7 IV is exactly the same thing as a one shot from an IQ4 150...

So for genres such as landscape, it doesn’t make much sense to spend 10 times for the best image quality if you are too lazy to stitch. Because the boy next door who does stitch will end up with the better print. ;)

In fact the same held true 10 years ago...

Cheers,
Bernard

There are images in landscape photography which is hard to stitch, for example if you incorporate some moving element - rolling clouds, waves, etc. Also having the same pixels doesn't necessarily mean that the quality of that pixel would be identical. I'm thinking about different CFA, or the on-chip phase detection would cause some difference.

This example was shot during the weekend with a Phase One IQ4 150MP on an XT with a 23mm Rodenstock lens.

Nice image, but totally stitcheable. ;)

Hint... there is zero detail in the middle section with moving water. That part has a resolution of less than 2 megapixels.

Clouds have never been an issue.

With all due respect, I understand that this is a quick sample, but I would nonetheless personally correct the horizon for flatness and horizontality.

Bernard

GFX100 + 110mm f2.0

A lucky shot... look at the eye... ;)

Still, this is the only MF camera with which you have more than one chance in a million to achieve this kind of results on moving subjects.

Cheers,
Bernard
Love this Bernard

I don't post often here but thought I would add an image from the Tetons.

4150, Rody 90mm, Actus with some rise.

One more image from the Tetons... a day after a storm came through which is why I always come here during the shoulder seasons.
