Fill OEM ink to refillable R3000 cartridges to save money
« on: November 16, 2014, 06:54:49 am »

Hi guys,

I purchased a Epson R3000 printer.

eBay 9 OEM 3000 25,9ml = 250$, 1,08$ / ml.
eBay 9 OEM 3880 80ml = 400$, 0,55$ / ml.

As it is half price to purchase the larger container ink, is it possible to use a syringe to fill OEM ink from the 3880 into refillable 3rd party cartridges (that has a reset button)?

Thanks for any inputs or suggestions.

If that's the case, why don't you buy inks from 9880 220ml, cost 85 from B&H
which is only $0.38/ml

But with all the hard work and mess, I would just purchase ConeColor from Inkjetmall, their pigment ink so far is the best I have every used.

Thanks for your reply. True, the bigger cartridges is cheaper, didn't know those could be used.

But is the conecolor as good as OEM Epson ink? Of course you have to make custom ICC profiles if you change ink (or paper).

Yes
It is as good as the OEM ink.
Not sure about the longevity but it is pigment, shouldn't be that bad right?
Also it came from Jon, I trust this guy very much since he does know what he is doing.
Also, with ConeColor, I don't have to remake all of my profiles like the others.

Absolutely - check out Jose Rodriguez (aka jtoolman) on DPReview printers forum. He has some 40 printers (yes 40!) he uses regularly- has piles of videos he shares on refilling them with step by step details and does exactly what you want to do.

Yes, ConeColor is very good, but, Jose prefers to use OEM inks which is cheaper because he buys "empty" very large format cartridges for next to nothing, which still has 10-15% ink left, sucks out the ink (800ml cartridges has upwards of 100ml of available ink) and reuses the chips if they are good.

Check out his Youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/user/cheo1949 and monitor the DPReview Printer forum http://www.dpreview.com/forums/1003
