Mamiya Leaf Credo 50 ISO Tests
« on: September 09, 2014, 11:06:17 am »

As Doug mentioned in an earlier thread we have done our first tests with the new Mamiya Leaf Credo 50 CMOS back which is an ISO range test(100-6400).
The sample composite image at 100% is available HERE.
Please keep an eye out for additional tests when we receive our demo units.

Should anything but the identical performance of the IQ250 be expected?

Oh yes, no DT test would be complete without the lizard.   :D

Files look nice and very clean up to ISO 400.

ISO 800 is still pretty good, but it appears to start falling apart at this point.  There is a finger print (I think) on the plum that is visible up to ISO 400.  At ISO 800 that finger print starts to get lost in noise and, unless you saw the lower ISO version, probably would not know what it was.

At ISO 1600, it appears that the finger print is totally gone, along with the paper grain details within the wine label.

I would like to see the files pushed and the color compared to the CCD backs.

Note that the files have been rendered with a good amount of noise reduction enabled. Some like that, some (like myself) prefer to leave more noise in there. I think noise reduction often lead to a "brownish pastel look", and better result from a distance is had if the noise is left. But it's a matter of taste...

I agree, and there are dedicated noise reduction plug-ins available that do a better job than some of the built-in noise reduction methods. The "brownish-pastel look", or desaturated look when overcompensating for that, can be avoided and somewhat adjusted (by targeting color blobs and blackpoint) with e.g. Topaz Denoise.

I also do not mind a little noise, which may be invisible when viewed from the correct viewing distance and may even create an illusion of higher resolution in non-smooth gradients.

Cheers,
Bart

WRT noise, I'm in the camp of leaving more myself, certainly the luminous noise.  In fact there are occasions when I will add noise to an image.
