Sony Artisan GDM C520K & Eizo ColorEdge CG220
« on: October 02, 2005, 05:21:18 pm »

Hi;

I was going to buy a Sony Artisan GDM C520K Monitor only to find it discontinued. Does anyone know where I may buy one of these monitors? Alternately, does anyone have practical experince or knowledge of alternative monitors, such as the   Eizo ColorEdge CG220. Can you tell me how and why it compares to the Sony Artisan and, whether I should give up looking for the Sony and buy an Eizo. Also, does anyone know if Sony will be replacing the Artisan?

I am not looking at LaCie Blue Electron monitors because I have heard that there are problems with them (in addition, their service is abysmal - I have a LaCie D2 DVD/RW that goes to 'sleep' and will power up with the computer. LaCie is of not help in resolving this problem).

Thanks for your help.

Artisan’s come up on Ebay from time to time but hard to fine. I purchased a new unit about 5 months ago as a “back-up” to my original (it’s still in the box which I plan to hold onto since there’s no LCD I’m willing to use to replace it). Best display ever. Hard to find but not impossible. Sony still supports them. No news about any kind of replacement (and if they did, it certainly would not be a CRT).

There are other superb colour accurate monitors:

I´m not using one of them (wish I would!) but saw some of them
in action in one lab´s office - the guys there say those are the
best.

I used to have Sony CRTs and then bought Eizos.  Simply brilliant.  In Australia ( dont know about elsewhere ) the guarantee for the Eizos is five years.  I was replacing my Sony CRTs almost every two years. I'd give the Eizo a very big thumbs up.
