the ball actually always is with the occupant, that's Israel...

Vlad,

Your analysis seems to suggest that if only all the grievances of the Palestinians were assuaged by the Israelis and the rest of the world community, then there would be peace. What about the clearly and frequently stated objective of the hardliners, namely the annihilation of the Jews? What’s required to get that faction to abandon that objective? Until they do (or until they succeed?)….no peace. Seems to me that one of Israel’s (legitimate) objectives is to insure that they never have the capability to realize that objective.

I know better. It's 20th Century Great Britain that is to blame for the re-mapping of the middle east...

"It is accordingly understood between the French and British governments…"

About 150 years ago - or more - white settlers in America began colonising the west…

You think the eastern seaboard was unpopulated?

Isn't it now accepted by historians that World War II was largely the result of the unresolved problems of World War I? There's a 'cause and effect' link. The political punishment from the Treaty of Versailles led to economic and social unrest, humiliation and anger in Germany, which in turn led to a rise in Nationalism, or Nazism.

National Socialism, not Nationalism.

World War II was largely the result of Hitler -- "No Hitler: no Second World War."

for starters stop being an occupant

I have to admire you, Vlad. Yet again you have put your finger precisely on the answer. All Israel has to do to stop Hamas firing rockets at it is to cease to exist. Then Hamas's raison d'être will have been met and it can turn its attention to, well, firing rockets at someone else.

Your insight has allowed you to reach, what's the phrase? a Final Solution. Well done.

Jeremy

And Hitler was largely the result of...? His dad loved his mom?

Next, what say you open a new thread here entitled 'Naked Anti-Semitism in Europe, circa 2014".
There's nothing in the least bit anti-semetic about that news programme clip. Though there certainly is the problem that criticising Israel as some people have rightly done on this thread leads to [inaccurate] charges of anti semitism. And sadly a few dodgy posts.

All Israel has to do to stop Hamas firing rockets at it is to cease to exist.

Hamas rockets do not threaten Israel existence... 2 killed ? tragic for their families, indeed... that does not change the fact that Israel is the occupant and refusing to deal with West Bank part on fair terms... you are trying to steer the issue to Hamas, Hamas is a nuisance that Israel is using to justify the occupation and its refusing to engage the West Bank by giving back the grabbed land (which will set the example for people in Gaza part).

Economic hardship such as that after wars allows nationalistic far right parties to gain power as stoking up hatred against whatever bogeyman is convenient is an easy way to get votes from the stupid/bigoted part of the population. But without a leader as 'charismatic' as Hitler the national Socialists may not have even gained power led alone started WWII.
So without either Hitler or WWI, WWII would not have happened.

Israel wasn't shooting random rockets into Gaza.
Israel is occupying their land, imposing blockade, refusing them their own state, etc, etc... so attacking Israel is justified.

I am not sure I agree with this. Israel wants peace, but it wants land and security more.
they put land over lives... greed as usual

Hamas Detonates Suicide Bomb, Kidnaps IDF Soldier Just 90 Mins Into Ceasefire

Expect more finger-pointing.

IDF decided to use a ceasefire to 1) continue their operation (namely the destruction of some tonnel, built before ceasefire) and 2) do it on Palestinian land (instead of doing this on Israeli side - if that was indeed a tonnel from Gaza to Israel), so in turn Hamas justly attacked them (note - not on Israeli land - they attacked IDF soldiers who were violating the ceasefire by operating inside Gaza)... it was totally IDF's fault

... "They've just got there, it's their country..."

So, they "just got there" and yet "it's their country"!? As opposed to those who lived there for millennia, which, according to the above logic, doesn't make it their country.

Selective quotation, out of context, as usual.

Feel free to put it back into the context and then show me how that changes the absurdity I pointed out.

... They have no interest in what was true before they got there.

Yes, Isaac, I read the context the first time. Still does not change the absurdity I was pointing out. Having no interest (in what was true) does not make it false, nor gives them the right to claim it as "theirs." It boils down to "It's mine because I want it." Like toddlers. Or bullies.

The context was the other words surrounding it. The words you removed

Well, thanks, Captain Obvious. And has the removal of the context changed the meaning in any way?

The complaint that something is "taken out of context" is valid only when the context could have explained the meaning differently.
