Battery Life - IQ160
« on: April 19, 2014, 10:46:43 pm »

Hi All,

Just curious for any other tech cam and 645df users out there with an IQ back.
What kind of battery life (on the back) are you getting out of different situations? Latency Zero, Normal? Ambient Temperature? Screen Illumination Time? Live View?

What do you do to save battery power in the field?
How many batteries do you usually carry? How many would it take you to have 10 hour day of shooting covered?
What other options are out there? I've seen Silvestri's external pack http://www.silvestricamera.com/ita/catalogo/prodottoeng.asp?ID=7010K
but it looks to only have 1800mah, and no chance of having it plugged into the wall AND the camera.

I'm curious to hear from you adventurous types, how you do in areas with little access to electricity day to day? It doesn't seem to be an item I would take on an excursion...

Thanks,
JJ

I use PAGlink - https://www.paguk.com/

You'll need -
Battery
Battery charger
Power Hub
Dummy battery Canon BP915 with cable (note - the regular Canon BP915 dummy battery will need to be adapted as it will not lock on the IQ series battery latch). The BP915 is not listed on their site, but just ask and they'll make one up for you.

Two batteries ran my IQ250 for 36 hours shooting an image every 8 seconds and still had around 20% power left at the end of the session.

Cannot recommend the system highly enough. I'm getting another dummy battery for the ALPA FPS, so that I can power both the back and the camera from the same source.

Kind regards,

Gerald.

Specifics for those interested -

Battery - https://www.paguk.com/content/pag-pl96t-time-battery (has a display to indicate what percentage of battery is remaining, also can display how much time is left to run)
Charger - https://www.paguk.com/content/paglink-pl16-charger
Hub - https://www.paguk.com/content/paglink-powerhub

Gerald

Thanks for the information.

Do they make the mods to allow the battery to fit or did you. Also I assume you Dave the door open to the battery compartment ?  Could you you send a picture.

Hi Paul -

I had a guy roughly machine a little "bridge" which I then superglued onto the dummy battery -

Yes - the battery door has to remain open. It's tempting to machine a bit out of it to let the cable through, but not got around to this yet.

Kind regards,

Gerald.

Hey Gerald, this looks like a tremendous solution, I'd like to see if you fashioned any sort of mount to hang the larger bits from your tripod.
My other concern would be the actual fit of the battery, the latch holding the batteries in the IQ isn't the most secure, I can see any battery falling out with the door closed
