Darkroomless film Workflow/prices
« on: March 26, 2014, 03:58:13 pm »

Hello all,

I'm pondering getting out of film entirely.

I'm just wondering if it's worth keeping a film camera around to shoot and pay someone for developing and scanning.

I've looked a good bit though and never found a one-stop shopping place for excellent quality developing and decent scanning.

Does anyone do this?  Shoot the film and send it off, get printable (11x17 scans from 6x6 negatives) scans?  Where do you go?  What does it cost you per roll?

Thanks
Paul

Hi,

where are you located? since a couple of years there's some kind of a film hype growing around the wedding and portraiture world, with a bunch of new labs offering developing and customized scan services, mainly C41 & BW, 135 and 120, almost the print size you are asking for.

In the US f.e.: http://www.richardphotolab.com/ http://indiefilmlab.com/ http://thefindlab.com/
in europe: http://carmencitafilmlab.com/ http://ukfilmlab.com/

I just found my love for film back after a couple of years shooting only digital and am happy to have kept some of my old cameras, because I'm using them again. If I need something bigger for  a single print one day, I still got scan services around my place to get some huge imacon scans, but the way those labs work, is a really nice experience, compared to my workflow a couple of years ago.
