I really like this one. The orange is a striking counterpoint to the white and helps to accentuate the texture in the image. Despite the verticals, the diagonal interaction of the shadows and light make the image dynamic.

Always a tricky judgement if the literal has somehow become abstract :)

Often it's a matter of asking what the picture is about. Here, is it about a section of wall and another of a curtain, both happening to have shadows on them? I don't think so. It's more about balance (spatial and color), and straight lines versus irregular shapes (the shadows), and the moods and tension that these create.

IMHO, I believe that the fact that it is literal makes it easier for us not to have to ask the "What is it?" question, so we can play with the visual elements more easily.

I hate that 'what is it question', who cares if it's a play on light and texture. But I know that's a simplistic view and not the norm. Throw off the shackles of the accepted reality and breathe! :)

May be I should put this in the Tree section. But at least I have options.

Beautiful, John!

While I can certainly guess how you got the tree, how was the monochrome background achieved?

Good question.
I love it, John.

Thanks Slobodan and Eric. I used selection tool on green dark areas and then desaturated. Compared result to original, then refined selection until most of colour and tree was included. Sharpened tree and left surroundings untouched like when processing a sky. Actually converting to BW is hit and miss, and feathering looks more natural when desaturated as opposed to converting. But for me, it's just trial and error.

What's confusing me (and maybe Slobodan) is that the motion blur patterns in the tree don't match those in the background.  Especially in the upper LHS.

Or was there wind involved?

In any case, it's lovely.

It appears that way, but I can assure you the pattern is the same. I think what happened, is, the area in question has more trees and bushes and their pattern is mixing and interfering with the pattern I created in camera movement. Sometimes a camera movement is not conducive to pre-existing patterns, or you can be pleasantly surprised! Here is another, which I like better for it's more free flowing movement and abstract look, but I miscalculated and did not trip shutter early enough or include enough of the tree in the picture space. Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks Eric. No point in doing these if you don't have fun. At the camera club my friends keep threatening to buy me a tripod for xmas.
Here is one which is an actual building, but I decided to have some fun with it and maybe disorient a few judges.  An abstract even without the alterations.

Very nice. This would be a tough one to print--but well worth the effort.

Really fine, John.
I have one suggestion, though. I would be tempted to make your watermark a little smaller, move it to the right a bit, and slant it so that it looks like a logo that's part of the building.

Thanks Slobodan, Eric and Bob. Yes Eric, the watermark does in this case draw too much attention. So I did alter it as you suggested. Much better. Didn't even know you can change direction of watermark until I tried different tools.

Now, of course, all you need to do is retake it while swinging the camera around deftly.  And make the watermark match.   :D

Forgot camera was on self timer. So I cursed and moved the camera anyway. This result was my good fortune. I'm pretty sure if this was film, I would have double cursed!
