I like it but I an't help thinking that the right handle bears some resemblance with the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monkey_selfie!

As with 'art' there's a problem of definition: when is something abstract and when simply a close-up?

Does abstract mean that it remains a mystery until the originator explains - should he explain, ever? I think he should not. Somebody, some years ago, posted an image here that was great, then he went on to state how it was shot, instantly ruining the entire effect. Guess that's why the slightest bit of chiffon or Indian cheesecloth, even a deep shadow, changes a nude from meat into attractive.

As Rob says when is something really abstract? Don't think it matters, as long people can feel free to contribute to this thread.

Agree 100%, John; the question wasn't about what's permissible, but what we actually mean when we bandy about these easy definitions.

The longer I stay with this site the broader I see definitions become. If I stay long enough, perhaps I will reach a moment when no definitions exist, and everthing is everything to all people. Moment of (or for?) instantaneous combustion?

;-)

P.S. I like your picture, by the way, Feels sort of pastoral in the sense of wheat, but no idea what I am really seeing, and that's the best way!

Time to man up and contribute I guess. Not sure how abstract this is but I think it sort of fits here

Mike, I like the subtle shadow play. And it reminds me of hallway. But the top portion says hold on, think again.

Thank you, it was taken in our local but very modern public library.

Nice idea; I am thinking about a shot in a video I saw somewhere - I think it was an interview with either Bailey or Duffy - where one or the other of them tells the interviewer (and camera) to look at the twin plugs on the wall - MKs - and tells the guy that they are art, if you want them to be. He might just have been making an easy point, I can't be sure, but the more I look at things like that the more seriously I take that statement. I incorporate it a lot of my current photographic mind; perhaps I lack the literal belief, but certainly feel that by the time I play around with the basic shapes, I have got somewhere that I enjoy being at, which of course, is all that matters now.

Nobody needs to travel to make pictures; I believe this more sincerely every day.
