Indeed different. In a good way. Minimalist on color appearance. High on intrigue. It's ugly and fascinating at the same time. Once you see a bridge (if it even is that), then it actually looks like a good abstracted representation of it. Far enough abstracted to not be impressionist, and yet, enough hints to make something up. (No, don't tell us what it really is, that would just spoil the fun...)

Interesting comments. You managed to characterise some of what I was thinking about the image. I didn't think it was going to turn out because it was shot near dusk and I had to use a high ISO. Damned mind readers... No wait... thanks for the insights.

I think we could say this one's abstracted, or at least semi-abstract.

Very nice. Like a painting. Is it long lens with shallow depth of field?

Thank you, John, Jim and Eric.

John, the lens was an Olympus 60mm (120 equivalent) macro. I was walking down a street in a small eastern Cascade foothills town in late afternoon when I noticed this backlit group of flowers and birch tree near the sidewalk, with more flowers in the distant background. Somehow I saw instantly in my mind what I wanted the final picture to be, with most elements out of focus. So I set the lens to wide open (f/2.8 ) and focused so that most foreground and background elements were blurred. A strong wind was whipping the plants around, which also helped. And to top it off, I added a bit of ICM to the mix. The captured image still had a few more details than I wanted, but after a little processing with Topaz Simplify and Impressions, it came out pretty much as I had envisioned it.

I know; TLDR, right?  :)

Not me. I found the explanation interesting. I think I can create the same effect using surface blur in combination with other effects. But  the question is can I match your outstanding result. Also interesting is that I did not know your 60mm macro is the equivalent of a 120 mm full frame. Can you buy extension tubes for your lens?

I don't think Olympus sells them, at least for the OM-D cameras, but 3d party companies do. The minimum focus distance for the 60mm macro is already very short; not sure I would want to get much closer to most subjects. If I'm getting serious enough to use extension tubes, then I use my Canon full frame system; I have a full set for that.
