Pieter, I like this image but have a suggestion, if you don't mind. I think this image would be much more effective if the depth of field was solid throughout.

Thanks John, and I don't mind at all.

It would take another long train ride/day trip to try your suggestion (as well as a nice sunny day) because I didn't take the same shot with a much smaller aperture when I was there. Sometimes you miss the most obvious variations.

But I'll try to think of it next time I "work" a subject to try different dof settings

Didn't think it would turn out well because the light was very harsh, but the camera movement smoothed out the harshness. The transition from lights to darks, looks quite effective and moody to my eyes. Taken at Niagara area in small conservation area.

I shot two here so this is the first shot. I thought the above posted showed more of the swamp-ish look.
