One of my favorite museums for photography is Mass MOCA (Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art) located in a complex of old mill buildings in North Adams. They have some fascinating exhibits including huge works that couldn't fit inside any ordinary museum. But I often find that details of the museum building itself are quite interesting as well. Here are a few from a recent visit:

If mine is a planarian, it's been squashed pretty flat and probably not very useful for genetic research.

For me, the attraction with this type of image (the making of) is that you can do it amost anywhere. All you have to do is think a moment. I suppose the strange thing about it all is that it requires pre-visualisation of something you (I) can't honestly define down to the last detail at all. It's a surprise when it works and a deep disappointment when it fails - which happens, too, even with such apparently random ideas where one could be forgiven for believing that since there's no precise plan, then how on Earth can there be failure? And no, I don't think it's anything like 'street' where you also never really know what you've achieved until you see it later on the screen.

Not quite a "real" abstract, but I often think when subjects are isolated in this way, they are a kind of abstract. I was helping someone learn about rhythm and patterns this morning.

Peter, I'm as bad at chess (worse!) than I am at computer skills. I suspect that the mindset for excellence in both is fairly similar. However, visual connections are easy for me to spot and apply, but mental strategies are too complex and painful.

In a sense, my love/hate relationship with PS is similar: I know how to do what I have to know how to do, but have zero interest in the next step until it becomes unavoidable, which means I then either unavoid it or dodge hard to the side and let it miss.

Rob, I've worked with computers for over fifty years, and quite some time ago I decided that when approaching any new piece of software, I should make a list of ten things that would be useful to know how to do in that program. My list typically includes "How to start the program, how to save work done in it, how to print what I've created, and how to exit."

Once I'm comfortable with my Top Ten, I may learn additional bits as needed.

I've been using PS for over ten years now, and I suspect my PS list has grown to as many as maybe twelve or thirteen. In Lightroom I may be up to over twenty!

So you have my sympathy.
