...work influenced by Kazimir Malevich's iconic painting "Black Square".

There is a better version of that black square:

Very abstract, Ken. But maybe you should crop it square to fit with the gallery's theme.   ;)
I did think about that, Eric. Not all the images in the exhibition were square, and I also wanted to pay my respects both to the "found object" tradition in modern art (I found a rectangle) and to those in LuLa who think it unethical to excessively post-process. But on further reflection, you are right, and I will add in a square version (which I actually like better). ::)

Three shots of new ice with soft light, taken a few days ago.

I really like these, especially the first two. I wonder how you guys up north tolerate the weather. Taking and processing elegant images probably helps.

I don't have any nice, warm beaches with glorious sunrises like Florida, but I hope you have noticed that I'm getting some inspiration from your minimalist beach shots.

It did hit 14 below zero the night before I took these, after many days of weather in the 40s and 50s. So taking was quick and cold, but processing was nice and warm.

I really take to your second one, Bob; it feels 'complete', to me, where the first doesn't (again, to me).

I love the softness of the colours Michael.

With the light changing as location of the rapidly moving bubbles did, catching that burst in that light was a rare occurrence.

Thank you

Thanks for the comment Rob. The first is more about the shadows effect rather than the subject of the picture.

Taken at sunrise, where I decided the water patterns were more interesting that day. I should have raised the ISO even more to increase shutter speed  and better freeze the patterns, which look a little murky. The noise is quite acceptable on Pentax even at ISO 1600. Next time, as they say.

Went for a walk. It was beautiful but the light was harsh, so took took patterns and shadows.

Thank you guys; it's just one of those 'presents' that we, as photographers, are sometimes given. And as I've said before, until they arrive they aren't even a distant idea in my mind. Well, they almost never are, except the times when I start with a caption that sticks in my subconscious, and then the image comes knocking some time later.

I did start out with a love of paint: that was due to my mother, who took me - not dragged - to places within wartime Britain that still had open doors with treasures beyond.

So I suppose those experiences remain for life, even when the original love - paint - turns out not to possible for you later on. But the mind doesn't really care that much - there are always alternative ways to live those feelings through your life.
