Balloons

For my money, no balloons = no picture.

If anything, had the idea been mine, I'd enjoy playing with some old balloon shots from Rocamadour. I had them from above and parallel, and then the cassette ran out. My wife was not amused: she'd told me to wait, so I missed a perfect shot where one moved right above the castle on the crag... so much for dedicated stock shooting.

Anyway, I'd have thought about cloning in the balloons. But that would be cheating, so I probably wouldn't really do it.

You still don't get it. Perspective isn't what changes the feeling of the two pictures. With the balloons there's an element of ambiguity and of mystery. Without them it's just an out-of-focus picture of some people: mildly interesting but not ambiguous.

I see absolutely zero ambiguity or mystery with the balloons.  So is it me not getting it, or you?  This is what I was trying to say, before telling people they're "not getting it" which denotes or possibly infers they're somehow wrong, consider there is more than a single way to interpret an image.  As I've said, I see the possibility for a far more compelling image without the balloons.. but this is only my opinion and doesn't mean anyone else "isn't getting it.."
