DxO 9 did something between version 9 and current version 9.1 for sharpness in their Prime noise reduction.  Following site shows some examples:  http://www.lifeafterphotoshop.com/dxo-optics-pro-prime-9-0-vs-9-1/2/

Slow, but it seems to do some major image work too.
