Methods of Hanging a Panorama Gallery Wrap
« on: August 20, 2013, 09:18:04 am »

I usually just use the two screws and a wire - but this wrap is 68" x 12" and would like a better solution to keep it straight on the wall.  I thought of sawtooth hangers - but I'm out right now so wondering if there's something else?  I seem to remember a method using two wires in some sort of crossed pattern, but I can't find it anywhere.

A single wire and two hooks work for me.  Just hung a 60x80 canvas a week ago and that approach worked fine and should, too, for your pano.

Hey Mike,

Check out the hangman hangers at Lee valley tools (or direct from hangman). These are brilliant hangers for a decent price. Makes hanging are ridiculously easy, consistent and accurate.

Cheers!

ahhh... Lee Valley.. one of my favourite stores!  Didn't think of looking there.  problem is my wife won't let me go to LV - too many temptations! ;)  Whenever I get one of their catalogues she tells me my 'porn' has arrived.

Lmao. Well you can order online from them. Or from Hangman direct because your wife doesn't know about them yet. :)

Cheers!

I for one would  stay away from the mirror bars (some people call it z bar), it's meant for mirrors and really heavy stuff. No offense to framah.  If you are just hanging a gallery wrap, consider 2 or 3 security hangers.  On top and bottom.  I just hung 2 36 x 72's and they looked great.  The way the security hangers work, when you tighten the bottom the print is pulled in tight and will not have any movement.  The print will also not be moved from the wall unless the owner has the wrench to move the T bolts.

Here is link to UM's site:

On your large print the key is getting a good measurement and trying to set the hangers at the same depth.

I'd jump on-board in support of the security hardware. I've used them for prints up to 6 feet wide in hospitals, galleries, schools, a gym and a doctor's office with excellent results.

I can see their benefit for more public locations, but it may be a tad overkill just for a residence. I will definitely look into those none-the-less. The sawtooth hangers would be just fine, but I'm out and my delivery isn't until next week, but I wanted to deliver this canvas thus week. I've got the usual wire hardware so was interested in bet methods using this to hang the work as flush as possible. Like I mentioned, there is a wired method that criss-crosses, I believe, and what I was hoping to discover with my question. All the other answers are very helpful though and I will be following up on those.

Well, since you already have the wire setup, use a two-point hang. This effectively "shortens" the wire so that the print will hang closer to the wall but still allows for leveling.

Is a "two-point hang" simply two hooks with one wire, or is there two wires involved?

One wire. Two hooks on the wall spaced 2/3 (approximate) of the print's width apart. Example: if your print is 36" wide then space your two hooks 24" apart. Hope that helps.       - Jim

Put the screws or small hangers on the inside of the stretcher, not on the back.  This will get a much closer fit to the wall. :)
