How would you be stuck if a replacement for the 3880 was announced?  People are still making great prints with their 3800s years after the 3880 was released.  The only impact of a replacement on me would be grabbing up another 3880 at clearance prices.  There's no guarantee that the new model will be clog-free like the 3880.

I'm still making stunning exhibition prints with my 3800! It has never clogged.

I turn my 3880 off after use and keep it in the excellent Tumi cover.   It never clogs even after sitting unused for long periods of time.

Same with my 3800 and this is in the desert. Only turn it on like 3 times a year for extended printing sessions. I know many people have had issues with the magenta ink channel clogging but not me, but maybe it was an ink manufacturing problem which has since been solved?

I got my 3800 a few months before the 3880 came out, and it has worked for me very much as it has for Kirk. I use it sporadically, sometimes going a couple of months between prints. I did have one clog a while ago, did the only "Power Clean" I have ever done on it, and it has been perfect ever since.

I live in the relatively humid Northeast (U.S.), turn it off if I don't expect to print for a while, and cover it when I do turn it off. My house has whole-house air conditioning and humidification, which probably helps. If it ever dies, I'll get a 3880 (or whatever the comparable beast will be by then).

I live in the Washington DC area and don't take any special precautions with my 3880 other than to keep it covered with a nice drop cloth when I'm not using it.  It is so reliable that I forget to do nozzle checks 80% of the time.  I've had it off for up to four months and when I turn it on it just does a quick ink check and then prints fine.  If I want to print big, I cut sheets from roll paper with a Rotatrim and have printed a 17x30 with no problems at all.

When Epson replaces the 3880 I think they should offer a variant with a 24 inch print capability. Hopefully it wouldn't cost that much more than the usual 17 inch model. It would give us small volume printers some more options for making even bigger prints and the actual printing parts are well proven.

My 3800 fits beautifully on my Ikea chest, and there's no way I could fit a 24" printer into my office, so I hope they keep the 38xx line alive in its current physical size.

17 inch wide paper is about as much as a printer can reliably handle without roll paper capability and a vacuum system to hold the paper flat.  If that and the newest ink set were added to a 24 inch version of the 3880 the printer would be the size of other 24 inch printers.

Thanks, everybody, for the info and help. I get my 3880 by the end of the week!
