I like the last one, but love the first two.  The first rock seems otherworldly.  Is the coloration from iron oxides, lichens, or both?  It almost looks like an exotic snake.  The middle shot is visual poetry.

The rocks AFAIK are glacial remnants, a varied collection as you can infer from the differences in these two examples. The colours are all lichens.

They all look a little dark to me, but my favourite is definitely the third, for Churly's reasons.

#s 1 and 2 were taken with the sun below the horizon. I darkened them a bit before posting here to reflect that more accurately, but, yes, they could be brighter.

#3: one of the great things about photography is that it gets me out to watch the sun heave up over the edge of the planet and catch a few higher objects.

I like them all, but the rock in the first is my favourite.  Personally I would have shot from a higher vantage point and shot a rock surrounded by grasses rather than a rock in a field with a post-sunset sky taking up a part of the frame, but everyone sees differently!

Yeah, Mike I did a bunch of those without sky but the expansiveness and airy feeling seemed to get lost without the horizon. I enjoyed making the photos without the sky, but not so much looking at them. One of the better examples is here.
