unable to upload images
« on: December 27, 2012, 05:42:54 am »

Hi
Hope everybody had a good Christmas!
-I am unable to upload 4 jpegs of 500 kB each. Is there something I have overlooked? I choose file, then click Post. Safari in Mac 10.6.8.
Kind regards - Hening.

What happens after you click Post? Any message? Have you tried to reload the page?

The restrictions on uploading images are as follows:

Must be of type: gif, jpg, mpg, pdf, png, txt, zip or tif

Maximum size of individual file: 4096 KB

Maximum number of attachments: 4

Beyond this, we suggest posting a link to your server.

Hi Slobodan and Chris,
thanks for your concern.
@Slobodan:
The URL address line starts turning blue at left (selection color). After a while, a blank page appears with the address line filled in. That's it.
When I click re-load, it takes a while, then I get the message that I already submitted the post. "You might have accidentally double clicked, or tried refresh."  So that was not what I was supposed to do... But the page was not posted, not even the text.

@Chris:
As you see, my images were jpegs, 4 x ca 500 kB, so the size was well within limits.

Good light - Hening.

Try posting just one. It could be that the process times out trying to post all four. Nothing to do with the 4 mb limit of LuLa, but the server's timing limits. *

* EDIT: Just found an explanation from the site administrator:

With the timeouts it's because of the upload speed of your internet connection and the timeout that your browser defaults to (which I don't think you can change).  You should still be able to upload larger images (up to 4MB), but try them one at a time if you get timeouts on the browser end of things.  It only allows a connection to happen for so long before your browser decides it's been too long and stops things...

I have both changed the browser from Safari to Firefox and tried with just 1 image, no avail. I could only post the text (thread "White Balance - Heureka" in Color Management).

Then you should try posting a link from your own server or from wherever you might also have your pictures hosted (e.g. Flickr).

The only other known cause for troubles like yours was that the image was not a true jpeg or it might be a corrupted jpeg file.

I just tried this myself: I  took a .psd file (a Photoshop file) and instead of converting it to jpeg, I simply edited its ending into .jpg). Tried uploading it and got the same "blue bar" behavior as you explained.

I had a bright moment and figured out what was wrong: The file size in Byte was within limits, but the dimension in pixels was not!
I don't understand how a file, that is reduced from 126 MB to about 500 kB in the jpeg compression, can still have a pixel dimension of 5616 × 3744 pixels??
Anyway, files are uploaded now.
Thanks for your concern! - Hening
