Hasselblad -Focusing Screen Adapter Swap and fit ?
« on: February 10, 2012, 12:26:13 pm »

Greetings all,  curious if anyone has attempted or can confirm the view screen on the Focusing Adapter # 41025 can be replaced with an "Accu-matte" type screen.
Does this require evasive modification to either the screen or adapter frame?

appreciate any input.

The Focusing Screen Adapter 41025 was replaced in 1992 with an improved version 41050 which had the Acute-Matte screen. This is the version you need, which was again replaced in 1997 with the last version (41057) which had a built-in bubble level (all this information is from Nordin, p230-231).

You might be able to replace the screen in a 41025 with an Acute-Matte, but considering the cost of these things now and how easy it would be to mess it up, you would just be better off finding the later version and selling the one you have.

thanks John,  I failed to mention that  I have a spare Accu Matte focus screen and my inquiry is in response to the higher expense of the desirable 41050 version adapter.
Presently, I possess neither focusing adapters.
A 'used' 40125 appears abundant on epay, which is why I ask.

Right, I see.

I've also got three or four Acute-Matte screens (as well as the usual load of standard ones), so I can see that you could be tempted to try this. But until you have the 41025 apart you don't really know how this is going to work. And you will have to carefully remove the frame from the AM screen, with the big risk of breaking the very thin and delicate glass cover. Seeing as the AM screens are now making well over £100 GBP second-hand (and are £200-ish new), breaking one would hurt a bit  ;)

PS - I have put new screens into 500C bodies (the early model where the screen is fixed by four screws). These come in two parts - the plastic fresnel and the cover glass - and that glass is very thin.
