Hey, I lived 3 years there! (Biarritz)

It seems to me as a great place to spent some time... and it's near to the Spanish border and great city of Bilbao aswell as to Bordaux. :)

I obviously show various worrying syndromes when I move too far away from tripods and panoheads, but my finger sometimes lives its own life in the vicinity of the shutter.

Cheers,
Bernard

...if you like surfing...yes it's a nice place to spend some time.

But, it bloody rains all the time! It's expensive being redneck. Winters are boring like hell, there is nothing to do except surfing or drive to the moutains and go to the snow.

Bilbao is depressing, grey and almost as boring.

Bordeaux has a much better climate and infrastructures so as life quality. IMO.

Surfing...and rugby! SW France is rugby mad. (We should know - we keep going down there and beating them in the Heineken Cup! Although they did get the better of us in Bordeaux last night)

Fred, if I were a Basque, I'd read your post and think "Them's fightin' words!". Be careful you don't put yourself on some ETA hitlist...

;D Basques did know my posture on their greener-than-green-moisty country and each time I could tease them about how depressing it was to live there I never missed an oportunity. The Basque is not agressive, they are like those fat muscled guys who can impress at first but are angels and good souls. ETA is ruled by rich kid's families who are so bored and have nothing else to do that playing at the terrorism game. Those are not the poor palestinians... Oh yes, I forgot Rugby too...Bayonne was not a bad team at that time. I like Rugby but since I live in Spain you have to go in Irish pubs to see the games.

Nice,

What was the framerate of the video you uploaded, 30 fps?

(I wonder if youtube takes something more than 30)

base framerate was 24 (well 23.976).  When you shoot with the R1 on "Varispeed" mode, you tell it what fps you want and it records that as a 24fps track (or whatever your base rate is set to).  This way you don't have to speed up the footage in the editor, you just drop it in.

Fun and easy.

Hi Marc,

How is life in Tokyo treating you?

They were shot over the years with different gear. In sequence:

1. D3x + 24 mm T/S
2. D3 + 70-300 AF-S
3/4. Mamiya ZD + 80mm f2.8
5. D3x + 70-300 AF-S
6. D3x + Zeiss 100mm f2.0

Cheers,
Bernard

Good thread.

……….there is nothing to do except surfing or drive to the moutains and go to the snow…..
Fred, it sounds perfect to me and a day’s drive from Bordeaux.

Raindrops at 100 frames per second...
Terrific Chris, and perfect music; however, the drainage on your porch needs improvement.
I obviously show various worrying syndromes when I move too far away from tripods and panoheads, but my finger sometimes lives its own life in the vicinity of the shutter…

Bernard, I love the first two; is the pool a natural hot spring?

I’ll post one as well: South Dakota Badlands, approaching thunder storm.

Thanks Thierry.  It was a most dramatic thunderstorm and quite violent when the front arrived.  I am disappointed I didn't get more interesting shots.
A couple more; the last is taken by my wife of a poor rabbit cowering in a collapsed tent after the storm:

I like everything about this thread except the title.

non-professional work sounds a tad disparaging. Perhaps non-commissioned work would have been better?

I agree.
Also: What is ITT? International Telephone and Telegraph? In This Thread? Internal Termite Trashers?   ???

P.S. Terrific storm photos!

Finally had a chance to shoot something for myself this week. The model in the shot has been wanting to shoot for a few months, but with travel and work, I haven't had the opportunity to fit her in until now.  Went antique/junk store shopping on the weekend, and came up with an old radio-horn type of thing, so building on that, I headed toward a steam punk type concept. But I didn't really have enough props to go full steam punk, and then today Canada re-named it's military branches, going back to traditional names, so it seemed a good time to head in that direction. Anyway, that's what I came up with.

Fairly (overly?) complicated lighting set up - 7 all together, shot on Phase One P40+ w 45mm.

I had a rare chance to go out shooting this evening. This is a spot I scouted out in Google Earth. It's only 40 minutes drive from my house, then a 10 minute hike. This view is only revealed when you reach the very top of the hill...it was better than I expected. I wasn't really prepared for serious photography (i.e. I hadn't brought a tripod!) but most of my handheld shots were fine.

Mamiya 645AFD, Kodak DCS Pro Back 645M,  55-110 AF, ISO 200, handheld. Tobacco grad to tame the sky.
