Looking for hard case for small accessories
« on: July 13, 2011, 01:03:11 pm »

I'm trying to find some small hard case for small accessories, including extra batteries, memory cards, iGo power tips, power converters, chargers, USB/ethernet/power cables, etc.

Small hard plastic Pelican-style case with plucked foam interiors would be a pretty nice combo, but the problem is that whenever I get a new accessory or change one, I'd have to re-pluck the interior. If the foam isn't formed stuff doesn't stay put, especially in a moving vehicle.

I currently use a small bag, but finding the right thingamajig is a PITA, and cables get tangled.

Any ideas?

You may take a look at Sortimo. Extremly sturdy and very flexible, you can fill it with any size of little plastic boxes, when it is open you can reach every item at once and nothing will mix up once it is closed. You can always combine them in the way you actually need them and they won´t fall apart like this foam inlets. Click through the images to get an idea, real pro stuff.
They also have a plastic type, but I haven´t played around with it.

Ahhhhh, German engineering to the rescue. T-Boxx looks sturdy. I just wish they made a smaller version, as that's a bit too much to fit in a carry-on. I might get one or two for in-home storage, though.

Hmm, thought if powercords, chargers etc have to fit this would be an appropriate size. Well, if that´s too bulky I´d suggest to use a similar small box and place in in your camera case or an extra camera bag. There are plenty of brands around, very common for storage of small electronic components are the boxes from raaco. We use a box like this for spare fuses, modelling lamps etc.

Powercords etc don't take much space, especially with the iGo setup. I'll check my local hardware stores for smaller cases. Would still be nice to have a case which doesn't rattle...

I am not sure how common they are in the Netherlands, but here is the United States you can find small pistol cases in all sizes and foam configurations.

They are much cheaper than speciality cases and there is a wide variety of choices in any outdoor store.

I use them for all sorts of optical equipment from astronomy to photography.
