« on: June 27, 2011, 04:42:07 am »

Hi,
My Mamiya RZ 110mm caught fungus,is there any kind of instruction manual for unmount the lens?
I need clean up urgently, but I'm afraid to spoil.

Sorry my bad English.

Like most Mamiya equipment they are built with simplicity and beauty, easy to take apart for maintenance or cleaning. I took my 110mm apart a while back to remove a dog hair, not sure how that got in there but its gone now, here's what I did -

or check here for bigger version -

I used two flat head screw drivers, one for each opposing slot and applied a steady pressure to both anti clockwise. Unscrew "1" in the image first then "2" and you will have access to the inner lens element for cleaning, do the reverse to put it all back together. I never took apart the front element, so either google or send it in for a service.

thanks a lot Lightbox,

I will try to do this today.
I not sure about what element is contaminated, but I will to do this first and see what happen.
My scared is about the shutter. :)
Can I cleanup using any lens solution or use something like Isopropyl alcohol?

Can be hard to tell which elements need cleaning so start with the rear one as its easy. The shutter is part of its own assembly so wont spring open or come apart when you remove the rear element, I did de-cock/release the shutter before unscrewing though. Again take lots of care with the initial unscrewing, find the right tools to fit into the slots and have someone else hold the lens while you apply pressure, last thing you want is a tool slipping and scratching the glass element  :-[

Lightbox,

I did the cleanup and everything seems ok.
I cleaned the front element too, but I not unmount it.
The only thing is that seems little dots.... minimal.

How Can I do test shoot, for see fungus or dust?

Shoot a gray card, out of focus, at maximum aperture value (smallest hole).

Or a lightbox (underexposed to be gray) out of focus with maximum aperture value.

Then in Capture One, Lightroom, or Photoshop increase the contrast or otherwise exaggerate the histogram.

Best to clean your digital sensor first to make sure you don't confuse sensor dust with lens dust/fungus.

If you're shooting film... I don't know... borrow a digital back :-).

usually it doesnt show on pictures if clenaed properly
even with minor marks, its gonna be fine
but of course its gonna be difficult to sell
so just keep it and shoot and be happy with it
