Before get out to preach the Gospel the Virgin Mary asked to the Saint Apostle and Evangelist Luke to paint 12 icons of Her with Jesus on Her arms. The future Saint Apostle Andrew took one of them and gone toward Sceythia to bring the Good News.

The myth tells that St.Andrew and His companions, being on Dacians territories to preach the Christianity, arrived at a cave.Believing that this place is good enough to hide Christian meetings, He looked inside, where nobody was and said to the companions "nemo est"(nobody is).Only a few companions knew, probably,Latin so the majority of them believed that He named this place... "Nemoest".St Andrew put inside the Virgin Mary's icon. The time run...the dark ages arrived soon, Romans and barbarians ruled  this territory, the goal of this place was lost but the name reminded.Rocks and woods covered in time the entrance of the cave.Slowly the name of the place was transformed in the Romanian "Namoesti"

...1300 years passed over...Some shepherds, being tired slept in this place. All of them dreamed Virgin Mary who asked to find Her icon which is hidden in this place.Being impressed they dug and discovered the cave's entrance.Reaching inside they saw the icon.

Thus "nemo est",those simple words, became a holy place and a monastery was raised.
Thanks
