IQ 160
« on: May 12, 2011, 05:35:43 pm »

Most probably don't need the 8o Mpx of an IQ180 but want both the new user interface/screen and improved image quality
I was wondering if anyone had information on the IQ160's image quality yet? the pixels are larger than the IQ180's and if the pipeline is improved perhaps it's image quality (DR etc) would be improved?
Or is the IQ 160 just a repackaged P65+ and  P65+ image quality is what one would expect?

Well, I believe the IQ160 uses the same sensor as the p65+, although they might squeeze a little more out of the chip with the added tech, I would think the image quality would be virtually identical. Of course, image quality on the p65+ is pretty amazing. the difference would be the bells and whistles (and there are many which are hard to pass up).

To be clear the P65+ image quality is phenomenal but I don't expect to see any significant difference in any image quality characteristic between the IQ160 and P65+. You might see something like slightly better long exposures due to better heat dissipation in the new chassis, or slightly cleaner ISO3200 due to better sensor-to-file hardware chain (e.g. A/D convertor). But I do mean slightly.
