Hasselblad HC 50mm-II
« on: April 07, 2011, 08:01:07 am »

Does anybody have any experience with the Hasselblad HC 50mm-II lens?

Would there be any reason to buy this lens if you already own the 35mm and the 80mm?

Thanks, Joris.

Well, there is quite a difference between 35 and 80mm. Sometimes, 35mm is just going to be too wide. I find the difference in field of view between the 80 and 60mm to be quite a lot, so the 50mm in your case would be a useful addition to the kit.

Your system will be more complete ;-) Right now you have a big hole between 35 and 80.
This is a new version of HC 50. It's redesigned. Better performance in the corners of the image, better quality ...

Yes, you will get it right now. If you order new one you could wait even 6 month ...

sounds just like Hasselblad to me
I am one of those with the 35mm and 80mm who is looking to fill the gap
thinking about using a 1.7x with the 35mm instead (or just use the impressive CF 60mm), the 1.7x would also work with my 80mm to cover the disappointing HC 150mm, and my 210mm to cover the not very impressive 300mm...

is the HC 50mm version I another disappointment that they had to come up with the version II?

Not sure why you would call the 300mm a disappointment? I have owned it and found it a very fine lens. I only sold it because 300mm is not used much by me. The 150 is not that bad either. All is of course depending on with what you are comparing it with.

The 50mm is a different story. The version I was definitely weaker than the zoom at 50 and even more so compared to the new 35-90. The weakest lens of the whole bunch is the 35mm. Now there is a lens that is in dire need of a version II.

If you need 50mm you have excellent versions in the 50-110mm which is sold pretty cheap these days by people that swap it for the new 35-90.

well I personally did not own the 300mm but have heard more bads than goods
the 150mm, its just not so great
the 210mm seems okay so far but I have only used it once
the 35mm is weak, but the 35-90 is a bit expensive...and there is no CF alternatives...
so far the only lens that I heard more positives than negatives is the 100mm

perhaps we should start another thread of the lenses...

The HC 300mm is an fine lens; if you've heard more "bads than goods" you heard it from people who don't know. The forum is useless for objective opinions on anything Hasselblad. Follow Nick's link about. Be guided accordingly.

I only commented on the 300mm lens remark. I'm not Hasselblad and I'm not your enemy.

It is funny. Up until several months ago you were almost a Hasselblad fanboy. Defending everything up until the point it was almost ridiculous. Now you are the opposite? What happened and what made you sound like a disgruntled ex-customer?

Sure the HC50II will be hard to get. It has only been recently announced. Yes, Hasselblad made a big mistake with the 60MP announcement but besides that they certainly don't have the exclusivity on slow delivery. I have been waiting 8 months for my Nikon AF-S85/1.4. 6months for the 24/1.4. 6months before I could get my hands on a D200, I am waiting almost a year now on the 150cm indirect from Elinchrom, etc... I think everyone can name some things that have taken (or are taking) forever before they actually became available. Heck, there are even things that have been promised which never materialized. Where is the wireless promised by P1 years ago?

I gather you aren't even a Hasselblad customer anymore, why the nagging about a 50 that you probably will not be using in the first place? Unless you simply want to bitch, in that case I can give you some more ammo towards Hasselblad if you like?

I don't know what's wrong with the lenses you've tried, maybe the problem was not in the lenses at all, but in your techniques? I find all the H lenses I use to be of excellent quality, optical and build. I just wish they had the same AF speed as HCD 35-90.

The 300mm HC is a great all purpose lens, and in my oppinion: ALL HC lenses do outperform all CF(I-E) lenses simply because of the AF wich is really helpfull above 16Mp. On the other hand, for specific tasks, some MF lenses are more equal than other.... this was long ago on some animal farm and still is in photography  ;) :D :D :D

Am I right in thinking that you used to be the Hasselblad dealer in Poland, but that business is no longer?
