Troublesome Gitzo tripod
« on: April 07, 2011, 08:07:52 am »

I purchased a high end Gitzo tripod with a center post. I have ongoing problems tightening the center post. Seems like a bad design on Gitzo's part if you ask me. Many times I think I have it tightened, and it drops suddenly. Suggestions ... other than not using this component? Or replacing it with a Really Right Stuff tripod? I love their stuff!!

I can't imagine a Gitzo doing this, especially one of their better ones.   I have several and they won't drop unless you basically loosen the thing past all reason.

Have you contacted Gitzo?  A defect is possible.. perhaps a small piece left out during assembly?  I'm sure they'd know.

I went to the Gitzo website prior to posting my question. The phone numbers are for their Italian offices. I don't speak Italian. Is their an American office?

This is another reason to buy what I feel are superior Really Right Stuff products.

There is a prominent link at the top of the page I linked to to change country. I'm sure someone in the US office speaks English.
