Double Sided Paper for Book Dummy
« on: February 22, 2011, 12:18:21 pm »

Maybe this combination doesn't exist, but would like to hear of any suggestions.  I'd like a relatively lightweight, double-sided paper that has as close to a matte finish as possible while still using Epson photo black inks.  That would be my "perfect" paper for making book dummies (mockups).  Any nominees?  Thanks!

Check out http://www.danecreekfolios.com/inkjet-paper-list/ and filter a bit. I came up with Red River Zeppelin Semi-gloss as the lightest weight glossy double-sided paper that I've tested.

To my knowledge that is a dye ink compatible paper not intended for pigment inks. The Tecco Efi Proof 9155 Semimatt (a clone in my opinion) has the same  remark in its specifications. How was the bond of pigment inks?

There are some Red River matte D.S. papers around 200 grams.

In SpectrumViz the D.S. in the description stands for dual sided. Can not comment on how Photo Black will perform on them but I assume there will always be some Dmax loss compared to Matt Black. I have used Photo Black on simple two sided paper qualities for texts. The Intelicoat Magiclée C2S DMPG190 grams and a 100 grams quality of a local supplier. Both on rolls. Both too cool white (FBA) I guess for your purpose.

According to the Red River site it says it is compatible with "all inkjet printers", but does have a note for pigment printers saying "Zeppelin is compatible with pigment inks. How well it performs depends on the image being printed. Large tonal changes in a print can present problems for Zeppelin. Feedback from most users is that Zeppelin performs well enough to meet their needs."

I didn't see any issues in my standard test print.
