Canon X300 Printers: Entering Service Mode

We recently had someone post on the Canon Wiki the method for getting into service mode for the X300 printers (different than earlier generations).  The updated instructions are available here:

One of the main reasons for doing so would be to reset the maintenance cartridge ink counter to continue (temporarily) using an almost full ink cartridge:
