No problem as long as you get the right type, ie. BP-511.

I have purchased batteries for the 10d from this site and they work fine and can use the Canon charger.

I, too, use after market batteries - the 511's - for my D30.  They work well.

The thing to look for is milliamps (mAh or something). The more the better.  Personnally, I love having 1500mAh.

I've had my Canon battery for 3 years. I then got two aftermarket batteries for less than the price of 1 Canon, and they last longer due to the amperage. After not using my Canon for a month, it's now worthless - doesn't keep a charge.  Can shoot 15 minutes before the battery warnings go off. But, it did last 3 years!  And I haven't had my aftermarket ones long enough to compare lifespan.

Can the 10D battery pack charger be used to charge aftermarket battery packs, or do the substitutes require their own charger?  I don't like the price of the Canon BP-511 and was thinking of buying alternative ones.  Thanks in advance.

I have been using an Hahnel HL-511 as well as 2 Canon batteries in my 10D for well over a year and after 6000 frames there is no noticable difference in performance.  I also use an unbranded battery designated CB-511 and this is also good (and was less than half the Canon price).  The canon charger handles them all well.

Haven't had any complaints, and for $9.99 how can you lose?
