New CD-R Storage
« on: November 09, 2004, 12:20:47 pm »

What's the difference between 100 yr and 300 yr?  CD-Rs probably won't even exist in 100 yrs, yet alone 300!  As long as the media lasts long enough to be backed up well after the next new media comes out, won't that be good enough?

New CD-R Storage

Delkin has announced a new, 300-year, CD-R.  They offer technical details on why they make this claim in their news release at the following URL -

Anybody have a way to test their claims or does anyone have the training to evaluate the results they are claiming?

My concern from what I read is that many CD-R's do not last even 5 years.  It would be nice to know if there had been a significant break through in this technology.  Additionally, if you read the specs carefully for CD's, any change in storage climiate can cause significant loss.  For example, if the power goes out in the summer, allowing the humidity to rise at your storage location.
