Gigapan Epic Pro question
« on: November 05, 2010, 08:18:24 am »

Hi all,
I have been doing lots of panoramic shots, mainly for architectural themes and some night scenes as well. Not all of them go for 360 VRs, but mainly for high res prints.
I ve been using a manfroto head, but am now looking into something more automated. Any experiences on Gigapan Pro systems? Will be using it on 1ds Mkiii and 5d cameras.
I can't see if Gigapan Pro is a vibration free system. Are these robust enough I wonder.
Any info or advice will be very welcome as always.

There was a scenic pano probably 12 ft wide and 3 ft high on a wall at PhotoPlus last week that was shot with a Gigapan.  I don't remember what camera was used though.  By the looks of the print it sure seemed that the unit was stable enough.  Maybe Michael remembers (I did see him walking around)  if he saw the same print and sees this thread.

RRS now offers an upgrade for the Gigapan which allegedly improves rigidity.

I used the older Seitz Vr drive yesterday and I must say I was hooked by its built quality and portability. I am probably going to make a reserve for the new Vr heads coming out in 2011.
You might want to take a look:

Sure more expensive, but many advantages and a different level of quality.
