Need 11x17 duplex printer
« on: October 08, 2010, 09:53:48 pm »

I've benefited greatly from the pro discussions here, but I currently have more pedestrian needs - a decent inkjet printer under $500 with automatic duplexing.  I need one with a tray that will hold 11x17 paper (25 sheets or more is fine).  Push "PRINT", walk away, come back and it's done.  Just needs to handle 24# bond which I think is about 60# text.   Would love to hear from anyone who has one they like.  Bob

Good luck! I think you're stuck with flipping a stack of sheets over to print on the other side or going with a duplexing color laser.

A dreammachine?
And as you have figured out; The HP Officejet Pro K8600dn is the biggest duplex inkjet I know about.
According to the specs, it's not what I would call a Photo printer.
Canon has some duplex machines in the Pixma series, but smaller.
Epson has the B-500DN, and that's also a business printer with only four-ink cmyk.

You could try the Xerox Phaser 7760, It is a Laser, but it is good for brochures etc. I use one for large calendars, quality is good. Price used though is twice what you wish to pay. You would get it back though with print costs.

I used to be a big fan of the Xerox 77x0 series myself but have to say that Xerox has lost their edge. Konica Minolta, of all brands, has taken over the high quality laser market. The Konica Minolta Magicolor 7450 is the same size and shape as the Xerox 7760 but is more affordable, more consistent and faster. A great machine. For a laser.
