Leaf Aptus II 12 review question ....
« on: January 31, 2011, 06:43:39 am »

So, in a review published on this site :

http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/cameras/leaf_aptus_ii_12.shtml

At the end the author states there is no difference in price between the R and non-R models (the ones with / without rotating sensor).
This directly contradicts publicly available information that I'm aware of (all press releases following Photokina, last fall) where there is a hefty cost difference between the R / non R versions of the 80 MP Leaf.
Could someone, please, clarify this for me ? Review error ? Press release error ? Change in Leaf pricing policy I'm not aware of ? Am I missing something here :) ?

Not sure which PR you're referring to. The 12R (V mount) costs the same and the M/ C/ H mounts. The AFi mount is 1,000 EUR more expensive.

So no "hefty cost..." and there was no change in pricing policy

Hope this helps

Which makes the 12R in V mount a very tempting proposition for 500 series Hasselblad owners. You can shoot with a WLF and change instantly from landscape to portrait format. I'm not sure how the old C lenses would stand up to the scrutiny of 80MP, though . . .

And maybe even more-so with technical cameras for studio and landscape work...no need to remove the back, no danger of scratching the IR filter, no cables to re-route...
The AFi model with the tilt-screen is perhaps the ultimate tool on a tech camera?

From my experience the V series Blads and the Aptus-II 10R I think the lenses will hold up nicely...we'll have some samples to post in the next weeks

Cheers

Yair,

The SINAR Hy6 and the LEAF AFi are similar, but to my understanding not identical in all respects.  So, as an owner of the SINAR Hy6, my question is, "Can I use the LEAF Aptus II 12 on my Hy6?"

Hi Jerry, the answer is YES, you can use your Hy6 with a new Aptus-II 12. In fact the more recent Hy6 bodies utilise the same battery as the Aptus (and the AFi)  thus requiring only One charger...

Thank you for the clarifications.
Please find attached one quick (fast google search) example containing the aforementioned release news error.

http://www.techztalk.com/techwebsite/09-24-10-leaf-aptus-ii-12-featuring-80-megapixel-sensor

After reading your post I went in and checked the original press release and yes, you are correct. Somewhere around that price point i might be able to do a  more serious market research, later in the year, when, hopefully, I will be in the position of actually making a purchase.

FWIW, once you try the revolving sensor, the world of backs splits into two versions: those with and those without. Its a delight to change orientation on the fly without dust worries.

Yes there is a trade-in path from your back to a new Aptus-II 12, contact your local Leaf dealer for a quote or contact me and I'll hook you up with someone

I am using an AFI7 and also have a Cambo that I mount the back on. After much research I have decided to upgrade to the 12 and am currently waiting for info on the upgrade path. The rotating sensor and the increase in pixels make this a definite for me. This will be my 5th back and my 3rd Leaf. MF works for me with my commercial studio's business and pricing model. Then I get to use all the cool gear for my personal stuff as well. ;D
