Niagara Falls Fireworks

I have a chance to go to niagara falls again and am interested in shooting the fireworks display.  Last time I was there, I positioed myself opposite the american falls, but found it was a pretty lousy location to try and shoot the fireworks from, as the fireworks display was to the left.   It was impossible to move around to another location with such a big crowd and the police taping off a part of the walkway.

This time, I'd like to get set up in a better location before the fireworks.  Is it better to be further away?  If so, what is a good place to setup for the fireworks display?

US or CAN side?  From the Canadian side, here's a shot from the main parking lot in the park that parallels the falls road.
