Anyone using ProFoto BatPac with Acutes?
« on: August 19, 2010, 02:07:39 pm »

anyone bought or rented a BatPac yet? I'm looking to use it with my acute 1200 pack+heads, rather than buying a 600B and head...

anyone using an alternative with success? I'm a little paranoid to fry my acute system...

Have not used it.

The battery size (17 amp) and weight of the unit is about the same as the older Dynalite XP 1100.  You sould get about the same number of pops from a given SLA battery, so the systems should be pretty comparable.

I bought a used XP 1100 a few years ago on the board here. It was a great little unit, I had a total of 5 batteries. Great setup, until I bought a couple of Broncolor Mobil's and Visatec Litepacs (similar to the 600B.) Plus my Broncolor Verso A2 - but I still had a hard time selling the Dynalite, I really loved that unit!

FWIW, I would **not** buy a unit that did not offer easily field swapable batteries. so that you can carry extras.  Watch out too for the totally exagerrated and unrealistic ratings on some units. The Tronix unit from a few years ago claimed to be a 1000 watt unit, but that was a huge exageation. It was really a smallish 150 watt unit.  Digital packs/monolights in particular will crash if underpowered.

I think I paid about $1,000 used back then for the dynalite with the extra batts.

Good luck!
