Looking For A New PS Camera
« on: May 09, 2010, 06:37:35 pm »

Hi all, we've got a new puppy here and I just can't leave the D2X hanging about. My wife's Oly is about 5 years old and seems to take an eternity to be ready, not to mention the lens opening causes much consternation with "the boys". Would really appreciate any ideas.

Thanks, Kevin

Any current compact will be much faster than your Oly, I've always found the Sony and Panasonic to be very quick. How much manual control do you want? and what other features are you after (big zoom or ultra compact?)

I have 2 current P&S cameras. The one I enjoy most for fun is the Pany ZS3. The long lens lets me get fine shots from a distance.
However, when the dog catches on and starts moving around--it's too slow.

I also have a G11. It's not the quickest either.

The best of the new crop appear to be the new Sony NEX-5, The Coolpix P100, and the FinePixHS10.  All of these are awesome for what they can do and how well they do it.  And they're fast.

We're responding to a relatively old post.

The Sony P&S with gps within, and 25-250 zoom would be one of my first choices if I was to purchase a camera today. Henry's has discounted it by $50. Is that  a trend?

The S90 is tempting too--Canon. Fast lens. I would need a Franiec grip to make this my choice.

I still enjoy my Pany ZS3 for furkid shots; my dog is older (perhaps moves slower? ) however, I have not had to use the "puppy" setting yet in the scenery section.

Enough from me; the poster has probably bought a camera by now.
