Z3100 24" does not hold it's paper calibration.
« on: May 11, 2010, 01:19:12 pm »

(Macbook Pro with latest OS; Printing from LR 2.7)

I have had the above (Topic Title) problem on & off for months.  It just came back today after approximately 2 months.  I turned my printer off over my 2.5 weeks holiday and turned it back on today.  I expected to have to calibrate my paper which I did and it seemed to 'take', i.e., the notice was turned off in the Constraints & Device Status box in the Print dialogue window.

I had some loading problems with the roll and the printer instructed me to turn it off and then on which I did.  Once the paper loaded, I went to print and the notice in the Constraints & Device Status box said the "Calibration Data for my paper type was obsolete" and that I should launch the HP Utility to calibrate.

How do I get this calibration to be recognised by the HP Utility so I don't have to do this so often?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Cheers,

Brian

Brian  - the forced quit is not very common.

How long have you had the printer?

Has it (the forced quit) happened again? Is there an error code?

And, are you having repeated problems having to update the profiles?

Brian-
You can check in the printer utility's paper list to see what the date is for each paper calibration.  My guess is that the calibrations are not being tossed out, but that for some reason the printer is saying that new ones are due.  My well used Z3100ps asks for calibration more recently than it used to, and will sometimes tell me I need a new one after only a week or two.  The documentation from HP says that environmental changes (not really an issue for me here in Hawaii) and other factors, in addition to time are taken into account in asking for calibration updates.  Unfortunately, they really don't give the criteria for asking for fresh ones.  In my experience, it seems to make little or no difference if I recalibrate every time it is asked for if I have a recent one already in the system.  FYI:  opening the printhead compartment always triggers a new request, even if you don't remove the heads.

I just got the Z-3100 "calibration is invalid" warning today; it seems time activated: I still have the same roll of paper in the printer that I had when I last calibrated - so, I am not going to calibrate - too much paper wasted.
