At a seminar I was giving today a Canon representative told the audience to keep an eye out for some Canon news tonight (tomorrow morning) at 1.00am Sydney time - not sure what time that is in the States. I don't know what it was about as I have no inside knowledge but I'll be checking the Canon site in the morning.

Not a rumour, just a heads up for those who are interested...

Would it be the announcement of the replacement of the Canon 5D2, its time for it, more and more people join the camp of Nikon due to 5D2 AF system so suck.
The 7D features should apply onto the new 5D2.

The Nikon D700x announce, Canon have to answer them.

Seems like Nikon is announcing some lenses midnight EST, so Canon has to keep up.
  I'd say Consumer wins.

Canon 550D?

Yes, good guess. 550D, 18Mp, and all the usual stuff. A cheap but useful back up camera maybe?

Oh well, I guess a 1DsMk4 was too much to expect.

As an economist, I understand Da Man... that "el cheapo" market segment is where the profit is... as a photographer... what can I tell you... I hate Da Man.

Hi Nick,

You are no doubt better informed and in the loop than I.. but I am hearing Spring for announcement of the 1DS MK4. Which cuts it awfully fine for my Iceland trip if I am to have any hope of getting a few thousand frames on it before leaving....*fingers crossed*

Mostly I'm no better informed than anyone else - although occasionally I do get to see stuff before it's announced. Regarding the 1DsMk4, I have no info or even hints. Your guess is as good as mine.

By the way, if i understand correctly, the new canon mark4 could be something around 40 megapixels... I was a little bit sheptict on the resolution of my 7D, but once tested it i think canon got it right
For me it's enough also 30 megapixels...

Well the new products this time around are less than interesting. Nikon (I'm not a nikon user) is at least offering something interesting.

Wish canon would get off the MP bandwagon and offer something interesting. I would love to see a FF camera with 18ish MP; high fidelity; solid auto focus; microprism focusing screen in a 650g package. However it looks like Canon has adopted the copy cat approach for the next few generation of camera (minus the MP race).

Copy Cat? Canon invented the megapixel race...
