P65+ on Mamiya RZ67 Pro IID
« on: March 12, 2010, 06:48:14 am »

Few questions. Is there a dedicated adapter for P65+ use on RZ67 Pro IID or do I have to stick with the HX701? As far as I understand the HX701 adapter suits 48 x 36 backs, so I wouldn't be able to benefit from the extra sensor size on P65+ in comparance with P45+? Correct me if I'm wrong. Oh and I don't even know if this adapter works with P65+ either  Can anyone give me some feedback on RZ67 lens performance with P65+? Doug, you've mentioned that you had this setup running. How hard is it to focus, are the lenses a bottleneck? I own M/L-A  and W N versions of the lenses so only the best stuff available for RZ67.
Thanks,
Chris

Here's a photo of the HX701 with a ZD back, and it seems to fit just right, so it doesn't look as though a bigger sensor will fit correctly.

Gidday,

As a manufacturing jeweller in the late 70s and early 80s all you need to do is get a good vice and a bustard file and file the Mamiya adaptor bigger.

Another alternative is to locate a specialist engineer.

Cheers

Thanks for the photo. P45+ has a 49.1 / 36.8 sensor and the adapter seems to have extra few milimeters of space in both dimensions. I'll test a P65+ with RZ67 probably next week and leave a message how it worked out.

does anyone know whether it is possible (and if so how) to mount and use a p45+ back on the mamiya rz67 pro (version 1)?  i heard it is possible without having to buy a special mount.

also, i can't figure out the difference between the various mamiya 140mm macro lenses (macro z vs macro m-la)... can anyone help here?

cheers.

If your P45+ is a Hasselblad V mount then all you need is the Mamiya RZ adapter plate from Phase One.

Your local dealer will be able to get one for you.

140mm M/L-A lens has a 'floating system' which means it has a floating element. Adjusting the floating element helps you with corner sharpness. Bare in mind that if you buy a M/L-A version you have to control the floating element at each shot, so it changes your workflow.
P45+ back can be mounted on RZ67 body with use of an adapter plate. There's no way around. Since it's not Pro IID body version, you need an adapter plate with synchronization cable, because ProI body doesn't provide any internal communication with the attached back. I'd suggest getting a Pro II though if you wish to use it with P45+ or any 30mp+ digital back.
