Canon - Lenses missing from USA site.
« on: January 03, 2010, 08:37:36 pm »

Hi All,

Where have all the canon telephoto lenese gone ?   What is canon up to ?   I was browsing the USA site today, looking at specs for 500mm f4, and its,  Gone ! Seems a few others missing also.

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controll...fcategoryid=154

I realise this is  a Rhetorical question, as only Canon knows what they are really up to, but speculation ?     When is the next major show for Announcments ?

Edit:

Seems there are a LOT missing, from all catorgries.   Only the 800m in Super Telephoto,   90 and 45mm TS-E missing,   Telephoto-Zoom is missing all the 70-200 Except the f4 IS,
Strange things affoot at the circle-K ?

Interesting. Even the drop down list of lenses is missing the same lenses. No 24-70/2.8, none of the 70-200/2.8 lenses, no 300's, etc.

Hmmmm, last time I noticed that was when the old 24 t/s disappeared-soon to be replaced with the new version.

Wow, that's a lot of lenses to update at once, but it is both an Olympic and a Photokina year--who knows?

Notice all the newest lenses are still up (I only checked the primes, though). At least for the superteles which were over 10 years old, I expected this for the Olympics.  But it's got to be too late now to get any updated superteles in shooters hands by FebruAry, no?

According to 'CanonRumors'   http://www.canonrumors.com/  There is an announcment from Canon on the 9th of Feb, and maybe one on the 5th Jan.

They also have a complete list of the 'missing' lenses from the canon USA site.

Wierd.

I love these announcements of announcements. I blame Steve Jobs.

And I'm dismayed to see some wide angle primes maybe being updated, just as I bought the 14mm Sigma a few weeks back. Well, about time for that update. And 85mm f/1.8 being updated - that might be interesting.

I am so much waiting for a replacement of the 90 tse, this lens makes 90% of my income! I hope it is really, really expensive, so the waiting list is not too long....

It's a fantastic lens - actually my pick as canon's best lens.  Looks like you agree - so just curious why do you want a replacement? What would they improve?

it is a fantastic lens, but there is room for improvement:

having independence in setting tilt and shift is really necessary, it should focus a bit closer, as currently there is a slight gap in fucus distance when using close up tubes and it eats more light due to its construction (when I switch between the tse and the 100 macro at closer distances there is a loss of light with the 90mm lens up to two stops). better fringing controll when tilted would be nice, but I don't know how much this can be improved with current sensors.

oh, make it f2, that would be lovely!

Perhaps they are making space for the new 70-200mm f2.8 IS. " fluorite element and no fewer than 5 UD elements "

It won't be goin cheap, that's for sure!

Announcement over at www.dpreview.com.

I am shocked that they didn't release an update to the 24-70 lens to add IS.   Has this lens faded in popularity?

Hopefully there are more to come.

Personally  I want them to do an update to the 100-400.       My ideal would be a 200-400 F4 (like the Nikon).
