AF tele converter for Mamiya 645
« on: September 23, 2009, 11:59:11 am »

Are there any AF tele-converters for Mamiya 645?

I found this one: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/used/32968/M...5.html#features

But it does not seem to support AF

Thanks,

As far as I know this is the only (conventional) option. It does work with the 300mm and 500mm 645 Pro lenses on the AFD, fyi. No auto focus, of course.

Steve.

Thank you for the response. Would you know whether the extension tubes offer effective change in focal distance as teleconverters do?
If I put a #2 extension tube on 150mm lens, would I get a zommed-in view to the projected image circle so that effective focal length is 300mm?

Michael:

Adding extension tubes would adjust the plane of focus but not the focal length of the lens, nowhere near doubling it, at least not significantly (even if you stacked them). Far as I know anyway (and thanks to Doug Peterson, our well known Technical Services Manager for assisting in confirming this).

Extension Tubes = Macro Work = Closer Minimum Focus Distance
TeleConvertor = Crop = Make the lens "longer"

Steve & Doug, thanks for the info.

Would you know if there are any unconventional or 3-rd party tele-converters for Mamiya 645 AF?

Hmmm. What about a Hasselblad V series teleconverter in combination with the Mamiya to Hasselblad adapter and Hasselblad V series lenses?

For example:

*Phase One 645 Camera Multimount for Hasselblad V lenses
*Hasselblad 350mm/f5.6 Lens
*Hasselblad 2XE Extender

Result, Hasselblad 700mm/f11 Lens on AFDIII camera.

Hmmm... would work, but beyond my current budget for this.
I have a 150mm AF Mamiya lens that I would like to extend to 300mm or so...
One of the reasons is to keep it light for travel purposes - planing safari to Africa!:)

So - looks like Mamiya 2X tele-Extender ($699) unless some other 3rd party solutions can be found.

  $699 ?!

I'm sorry, but there are at some places huge discounts on all Mamiya 645 MF-items.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/3296...2X_for_645.html

http://shop.graphicart.ch  > Kameras & Objektive   > Mamiya   > 645 PRO TL
-> CHF 220.- + Tax = $244.-
GraphicArt is the official Mamiya dealer here in Switzerland.

My gosh - I'm sorry. I gave the wrong price. $699 is our cost. The msrp is $779. So I am not sure what B&H is doing, on some items they may be a little lower than us, but to be $300 lower is either an error on their part (pricing has gone up over the years and they haven't made the adjustment) or they just found some on a shelf they bought 9 years ago and are trying to blow them out.

So there you go, if you can get it for $300 - $400, great. No biggie on our part. I was just posting the standard price...or so I thought.

Michael-

The 2x teleconverter-N will not work with the 150mm AF lens.  The elements in the front of the teleconverter don't physically clear the rear elements of the 150mm lens.

It will work with the 150,200,300 and 500mm manual lenses.
