Add Kodak to the "buh-bye" list
« on: September 05, 2009, 11:41:23 pm »

from a thread on DPR:
Quote
The news has come out via a group on LinkedIn (and I've had this confirmed via an e-mail from a contact there) that Kodak is closing its CMOS imager division.
This is rather sad. They've come up with some pretty interesting innovations recently.

not surprising, but still

Is this another of those tiresome "know someone who knows someone" third-hand rumor threads, or something else?

It appears to be factual, but do note that this is their CMOS group, not the one that makes CCDs, which are used in some Leica, Phase One, and Hasselblad cameras.

Looking at this list of Kodak's now discontinued CMOS sensors, I see little loss for LL forum readers; they were all cheap, small, low-res. sensors for phones and industrial uses.

P. S. To clarify; look at the first box with the heading "DISCONTINUED CMOS Image Sensors"; the rest are old CCD's.
No CMOS bigger than 5MP, 1/1.8",and most are video res.

I though these sensors had been used in several mediumformat units? Large CCD Sensors.

Those are CCD, not CMOS, so they are not affected.

No these are older CCD sensors which have been retired.  They are shown on Kodak's discontinued list, but had been announced long ago.   Kodak had some innovative technology for CMOS sensors that was pretty interesting so its a shame they shuttered that part of their program.  However I am happy that they'll still be making CCD based sensors.

Actually one of the best ways to change the subject on a LL thread is to not respond....just let it sink to the bottom....

Uh, oops.
