HR Digaron-W 40 mm f/4 anyone ? reviews ? report ?
« on: April 08, 2009, 03:55:26 pm »

Trying to find the best combo for my Arca Fline 69, an Aptus 22 and a sliding back... i've find out that sliding and 35 is a difficult task...

So, the new 40 may be THE solution...
40 digaron PDF

Being a retrofocus, i suspect
visible distortion

but easier to focus
les fall off

... so i'm looking for a user report...

Curious... I've used the 35mm's (both Rodenstock and Schneider) on an F Metric with the Arca Rotaslide as well as the Kapture Group Slider.  The lenses were mounted on the 15mm recessed board.  The only issue, if I recall correctly is that the rear element can hit the inner sides of the standard when you put  lot of shift or rise on, since the lens has to come further back than it would without the sliding back.  I didn't find this to be an issue since I feel like both lenses really only have about 7mm of usable shift before you start getting diffraction softness.

I wonder how much movement you can get on the 40 HR before you have sharpness issues.  I don't own any HR Lenses myself, but maybe I can get stickers for my 70 and 90 since those are being relabeled as such.

Hi,

What sliding back are you using? Could it be that it does not have sufficiently accurate tolerances compared to the shallow depth of focus of the 35mm lens you used? Do keep in mind the very small image plane of the Aptus 22 @ 48x36mm versus the larger 84x56mm of 6x9.

Thus perhaps you should try a 40mm & 45/47mm etc before buying new lens?

i will use a kapture one sliding back with a maxwell precision optics screen
I have two solutions to use the 35xl :
buying a rear frame Arca M 69... loosing back shift
buying a deep recessed lensboard from Kapture group -25mm

45 is too long... i have a 55 apo sironar digital allready...

I'm really afraid by the distortion of the 40 digaron W "moustache" type and the level of maximum distortion is the double compare to the 35xl...
But i'd like to see real pics...
The 45 offers brither image, less fall off, flat lensboard facilities, and it suppose to be easier to focus)
By the way, the distorsion curve is really similar to the Hasselblad 40 CFE ... not the horrible current IF, the previous one !

And no thanks, i don't want to spend ages in front of computer to correct it with software... when you use shift, it isn't automatic at all, and anyway it remove a little bit of details... and takes time !
